ACID
Established as a round table action group from designers for designers in 1996, ACID (Anti Copying In Design) is now a not for profit trade organisation with the aim of combating plagiarism in the design and creative industries. The objectives of ACID are to change the current culture that tolerates ideas and designs to be imitated and stolen and to create a safer trading environment for creative industries.

ACG
The Anti-Counterfeiting Group (ACG) is a not for profit trade association. ACG was founded in the UK in 1980 with just 18 members in the automotive industry, who discovered that they all had a common problem with counterfeit parts. ACG now represents nearly 200 organisations globally, operating in, or providing specialist advice to, most industry sectors where counterfeiting is an issue. ACG represents the interests of UK and multinational companies, manufacturing just about everything you can think of, from toothpaste to mobile phones, chocolate to car parts.

AIM
AIM is the European Brands Association (Association des Industries de Marque). It represents the branded goods industries in Europe on key issues that affect the design, distribution and marketing of brand owner’s products. 1.800 companies of all sizes from 22 countries, mostly active in everyday consumer goods, belong to the members of AIM. The mission of the association is to create an environment of fair competition, promoting innovation and guaranteeing maximum value to consumers.

BASCAP
BASCAP (Business Action to Stop Counterfeiting and Piracy) was launched by the International Chamber of Commerce to unite businesses from all industries and sectors in the fight against counterfeiting and piracy on an international level. One of the main objectives is to create public awareness and understanding of counterfeiting activities, drawing attention to the social and economic damage counterfeiting implies. A cultural change ensuring the respect and protection of intellectual property rights is another long term goal of BASCAP.

BPCouncil
BPCouncil, a member of the BPIntelligroup, provides leading brand protection and intellectual property professionals with an independent platform for the exchange of information, resources and best practices, as well as for social networking. The BPCouncil's mission is to enable an Internet-based meeting place for the brand protection world in order to protect the IP rights and assets of its members.

CIB
The CIB (Counterfeiting Intelligence Bureau) was formed in 1985 to protect the industry from damages caused by counterfeiting. It is a specialised bureau within CCS (Commercial Crime Services), which is a division of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC). The CIB gathers intelligence, makes undercover enquiries and organises counterfeit seizures. CIB also works in partnership with BASCAP and has, amongst others, developed the BASCAP Weekly Digest to further increase awareness of the problem of counterfeiting and piracy.

ECTA
ECTA (the European Communities Trade Mark Association) was formed in 1980 and brings together professionals from the EU member states from the fields of trade marks, designs and related IP matters. ECTA is an association of individuals who have a common interest concerning the protection of trade marks and designs in the European Union. ECTA organises conferences and publishes books, gazettes and flash letters on the topic of trade mark protection.

IACC
The International AntiCounterfeiting Coalition is a non-profit organisation founded in 1979. The coalition’s members belong to all business and industry sectors. The IACC believes that counterfeiting creates severe public health and safety hazards and economic harm. Therefore its mission is to combat counterfeiting and piracy by promoting laws, regulations and directives designed to render the theft of intellectual property undesirable and unprofitable. The IACC is an umbrella organisation that offers anti-counterfeiting programs for the increase of patent, trademark, copyright and trade secret protection.

IMPACT
In February 2006, the World Health Organization launched the International Medical Products Anti-Counterfeiting Taskforce (IMPACT). The taskforce’s aim is to build coordinated networks across and between countries in order to stop the production, trading and selling of fake medicines. IMPACT is a partnership comprised of all the major anti-counterfeiting players, including international and non-governmental organisations, enforcement agencies, pharmaceutical manufacturers associations and drug and regulatory authorities.

MARQUES
Founded in 1987, MARQUES serves as the main European trademark owners association.
The organisation represents member interests to all relevant European Union and international bodies. In addition to serving as the voice of European trade mark owners, MARQUES coordinates social and educational events. The Association also seeks to improve cooperation and to promote the exchange of ideas and information between its members.

The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) is a specialised agency of the United Nations, dedicated to developing a balanced and accessible international IP system that rewards creativity, stimulates innovation and contributes to economic development while safeguarding the public interest. WIPO was established by the WIPO Convention in 1967 with a mandate from its member states for the global promotion and protection of IP through cooperation among states and in collaboration with other international organisations. WIPO currently comprises 184 Member States, i.e. over 90 percent of all countries worldwide.
